Dr. Hans Bauer is currently Research Coordinator for a Belgian Institutional University Cooperation programme in Ethiopia. He is an alumnus of CML, Leiden University, and former coordinator of the Centre for Environment and Development studies in Cameroon. His PhD was entitled "Lion conservation in West and Central Africa, integrating social and natural science for wildlife conflict resolution in Waza National Park, Cameroon", from which reports were published in Science, New Scientist, and various other media. He has developed the African Lion Database and has become IUCN Red List Assessor for this species. He co-authored the African Lion Conservation Strategy, based on multi-stakeholder workshops jointly organised by IUCN and WCS in 2005 and 2006.
